22.32 - “A Representation of the Interview Between Commodore (Now Admiral) Bryon and the Patagonian”, ca 1784 by Alexander Hogg, London
This engraving shows Commodore John Byron meeting the Patagonian “giants” at the southern tip of South America. Byron’s account of his circumnavigation of the globe in the HMS DOLPHIN was published in George William Anderson’s A New , Authentic, and Complete Account of the Voyages Round the World, which included the explorations of Capt Cook, Byron, Wallis, Anson, Drake, and Carteret. The print was engraved by Prattent. The print is rated Excellent [see our rating criteria on te Home Page] a crisp impression with a small chip noted at the top left, and a few small binding holes in the blank margins. The print measures approximately (13.1″ x 8.0″ – 33.3 x 20.3 cm).
