This hand colored copperplate engraving of the City of Arras, FRANCE is from Guicciardini’s publication Beschrijving van alle de Nederlanden. Good strong colors, the print is based on Braun & Hogenberg’s 1572 plan. There were five brothers sent by their father Lacopo, from Florence to run their mercantile business in Antwerp. Lodovico did not arrive until 1539. It was Lodovico and his brother Giovan Battista who became active in the fields of geography and cartography. The print is rated Very Good [see our rating criteria on the Home Page] with only minor age toning noted. A French coat-of-arms is shown at the top center. Measuring approximately (9.1″ x 12.2″ – 23.0 x 31.0 cm) , the print is on heavy paper.
