22.22 - Deventer, ca 1581, by Braun & Hogenberg, Cologne
A fine birds-eye plan of Deventer, Netherlands depicting a network of canals and walls surrounding the medieval city. The city is viewed from the south, on the east side bank of the river Ljssel. The large Grote Kerk, or St. Lebuinus Church dominates the view at the center. Numerous windmills are illustrated. Two coat of arms, a strapwork cartouche and, as is typical of Bruan & Hogenberg prints; two persons in period attire complete the print. French text on the verso. The print measures approximately (16.4″ x 13.5″ – 41.7 x 13.5 cm) and is rated Very Good with a fine impression on watermark paper.
